More About Us
Formed in 1993 Big Space are dedicated to the ethos of producing large cast epic dramas in both theatrical and non-theatrical venues. The projects chosen by BIG SPACE are painstakingly researched and the spaces are chosen specifically to suit the requirements of each play. Big Space undertake the renovation of the space where necessary to tailor it further to the chosen play. This approach has so far yielded critical success for both of our productions to date.

Titus Andronicus, Hornsey Road Swimming Baths, 1993

"The acting is cool hard-hitting and effective, the costumes stark dark and unshowy; the pacing is at once electric and controlled" - Time Out

In 1997 Big Space joined the Independent Theatre Council and later that year were invited onto the consultative committee of the St Steven's Art Centre Trust, a body responsible for the regeneration of the derelict St Steven's Church, Hampstead.

At the beginning of 1999 Big Space Productions became a registered charity. Since then have been investigating many peformance spaces, and have compiled a shortlist of projects to be adapted and performed over the next five years.

Donations enable us to expand our ground breaking work and give further opportunity to cultivate new audiences giving them a chance to participate in a unique live event.

Donations also enable us to widen our INTERNSHIP scheme giving students studying theatre discipines the opportunity to gain valuable experience in the realities of proffessional theatre production.

Big Space also have an OUT-REACH policy which we run alongside each production, visiting local schools and colleges, supplying comprehensive educational workshops which allow students to fully experience the world of the play.
